To create a bibliography in your document, first place your cursor where you want the bibliography to go (in most cases, at the end of the document).

You don't need to have the Mendeley Reference Manager open in order to use Mendeley Cite.

To insert citations & create bibliographies in documents, download Mendeley Cite from the Microsoft store.

Browse to find the new folder, click Apply, then OK. For PCs: in Mendeley Desktop, from the Tools menu, select Options, then File Organizer.

Want your PDFs stored elsewhere? Create a new folder in the new location (for example, your desktop).

Note: If you work on more than one computer, these folders will not contain the same files each device will have the PDFs that were added from that computer. Find it here: P Cs - C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Mendeley Ltd\Mendeley Desktop\Downloaded Macs - Cmd+Shift+D click Open Data Directory to access the folder. The Downloads folder is in your Mendeley data folder. When you download the desktop version of Mendeley, a folder is automatically created.

All PDFs must be kept in a folder on each device that you use with Mendeley for the program to work properly.

The free version of Mendeley has some limitations on space (2 GB web storage, 500 MB each for personal shared storage) and users (25) for private, invite-only groups, but you can purchase premium plans for more web & personal storage space & more users & shared groups. From the Mendeley program, you can then easily insert these references into Word documents. You can insert citations to articles that you find using multiple library databases. You can share PDFs (and your annotations) with anyone who is a member of your group. Mendeley is a reference management tool that can be used to manage citations to articles, books, government documents, book chapters, or websites. Need to use your library away from your computer? Use more than one computer? Download Mendeley Desktop to as many computers as you want, then sync them with a click of your mouse. Choose a color (not just yellow!) for your highlights and notes. You can highlight and annotate your PDFs. If you do create an account with Touchstone, rather than by setting a password, request to reset your password or contact Mendeley tech support using the email option at the bottom of the Mendeley support page.

To get around this, use a non-MIT email address.

In some cases (such as if you have a pre-existing Elsevier account), you may be forced to create your account using Touchstone.

Do not choose this option if you plan to use Desktop.

This is currently not working with Mendeley Desktop (but works with Reference Manager).

Mendeley recently added an option to create an account using an institutional login.

Important notes if using Mendeley Desktop: Sign in from the MIT network to get extra storage.
